I mentioned the Rays' media guide earlier: Yes, the media guides are here! I know, total insider reference for most of you, but a much-anticipated one here in the press box. This year's guide has Carlos Pena, Carl Crawford and Scott Kazmir on the cover, standing on water, with beams of sunlight shooting out behind them. Crawford, in the middle of the shot, with sunbeams practically shooting from behind his illuminated head like a golden halo. Hmmm... walking on water, golden beams of light from the head... I wonder if this was unintentional or really meant to symbolize something?
Edwin Jackson, sadly, is not on the cover of the media guide and, happily, is no longer on the mound for this gray, dreary game. Al Reyes took over for the top of the sixth, keeping the score at 4-3 despite giving up a leadoff double to Vernon Wells.
I repeat: Vernon Wells, still in the game, in the sixth inning. Seriously, I think the Blue Jays think this one counts or something.
Bottom of the sixth, and Jays starter Jesse Litsch still in the game, at least until he's chased by...who else?...John Rodriguez, who gets stranded on first by a Reid Brignac fly ball. You know what they say about that lethal Rodriguez-Brignac combination. You can't stop it. You can only hope to contain it.
Going to have to go down soon to talk to Edwin Jackson, see if his arm is still attached after all that heavy lifting. Any excuse to go hang out someplace warm for a few minutes.
