Garza retires last eight batters he faced

Mussina leaves after walking Pena with two out in the third. It was his 54th pitch. That’s enough for his second start of the spring.

Garza makes it through his three innings, retiring the final eight batters he faced.
What a difference from his first start against the Tigers.

Garza’s command wasn’t off, but the Tiger batters fouled off so many pitches they made Garza really work.

After a shaky start where Garza allowed that double to Damon and walked two to lead the bases, he’s been perfect. It’s early in the spring, but man, is that could to see from a Rays pitcher.

Brian Anderson is expected to start the fourth inning for the Rays.

It will be his first time facing a major league hitter since 2005, which was before the first of his two Tommy John surgeries.

I saw Anderson before the game and asked him if he was excited.

“That’s the understatement of the day,” he said.

We go to the fourth with the Rays up 1-0.
