The wind is blowing in from center field. The flags are stiff, and the tops of the palms trees are bending.
But there is baseball at Al Lang. For how long? We don’t know yet.
Edwin Jackson is on the hill for the Rays and looked strong in the first inning. He did allow a lead-off double to Denard Span on a 3-2 pitch, but the hit came after catcher Shawn Riggans couldn’t hold on to a foul tip and the ball was just fair as it scooted past first base and down the right field line.
Jackson finished off the Twins with a strikeout and a pair of fly balls, which in this wind, will be an adventure all afternoon.
One thing to note: A small flock of seagulls are circling in center field. Rays center fielder Jon Weber did a good job to keep his eye on the ball while catching Michael Cuddyer’s pop-up in the first.
Aside from a single by Carlos Pena, the Rays didn’t do much against St. Pete native Boof Bonser in the bottom of the inning.

Jackson looks strong
