Orvella didn’t last long. He was lifted after allowing a one-out double to right by Matt Joyce.
Jake McGee came in to pitch. It was McGee’s first appearance since his ninth-inning meltdown against the Reds on Friday. McGee walked three, allowed two hits and four runs and did not record an out that afternoon.
He immediately walked Granderson and Ryan Raburn to load the bases, prompting a visit from pitching coach Jim Hickey. It didn't help McGee's cause when Aybar, playing third, dropped a foul pop up.
They say a pitcher is always one pitch from getting out of a jam, and McGee proved that by getting Wilkin Ramirez (hitting for Sheff) to bounce into an inning-ending, 5-4-3 double play.
Nice way for McGee to bounce back from a poor outing and a poor start today.
