Shields was a two-out walk to Renteria from pitching back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. But like he did in the second when he walked Renteria, Shields bounced back to strikeout Inge and end the top of the fourth.
Despite the three walks and hit-batter, Shields is working on a one-hitter.
Lopez, who warmed up in the first, finally replaces Willis, who worked three innings to match his longest start of the spring. Willis allowed a season-high three runs.
Lopez gets Longoria looking and Hinske to bounce back to the mound.
Joel “Party like a rock star. Party like a Rock Star. Party like a rock star” Guzman keeps the inning going when Raburn drops his line drive for a two-base error.
OK, forget some of what I previously wrote about DiFelice. The inning ended when he bounced into a 3-1, but not before Thames booted the grounder then kicked the ball before flipping to Lopez. If DiFelice had any speed – any speed – he beats that throw.
Still, I think DiFelice would be an excellent backup catcher on this team.
And I was just told Leyland and the Tiger trainer were checking on Dontrelle’s hamstring back in the first inning.
