Top of the 1st

I'm pulling double duty on this sensational Sunday, updating blogs for the Pirates as well as the Rays. Such versatility should bolster my value on the open market - heck, look what it did for guys such as Luis Sojo and Wayne Tolleson.

Now, it's up to my agent to maximize my ability to multi-task.

Eric Hinske steps in against Pirate southpaw Tom Gorzelanny, and it's hard to believe this guy was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2002. He hasn't approached those numbers since -he did win a World Series ring with the Red Sox last year, so it hasn't been all bad - and the Rays are his third organization.

Rookie of the Year awards are a lot like Best New Artist Grammys - for every Eric Hinske, there is a Derek Jeter. And for every Starland Vocal Band, there is a Christina Aguilera.

B.J. Upton legs out a double after Pirate leftielder Jason Bay loses Upton's pop-up in the sun, but he is picked off second by cathcer Ryan Doumit.

Scoreless after a half inning.
