I think Aki is going to be fine at second base.
He just robbed Porter of a single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth when he raced behind second, dived and caught the ball as it was about to hop past him. Aki then flipped to Bartlett for the force on Betemit, who reached when Bartlett airmailed this throw to first on Betemit’s grounder to short to start the inning.
You can tell it was tremendous effort by Aki. Betemit waited on second until Aki gathered himself then nodded toward the second baseman when the two made eye contact.
Gary Glover replaced Niemann and threw a scoreless inning.
Niemann allowed six hits and a run in four innings. He struck out one and looked pretty good.
