The Rays bombers

Eric Hinske is in the lineup playing right field, because Maddon wants to get a good look at him. Hinske’s chances of making the team is as a utility fielder and the fact he can play first and third base and the corner outfield positions as well as DH helps.

So did the home run he just drilled to right field off Kennedy into what I call the Mark Didtler Party Deck. I call it that because Didtler covers the Tampa end of the Yankees for AP. If you want to know what’s going on with a rehabbing Yankee pitcher in June, Didtler is your man.

Some may remember him from a clip you might have seen of a foul ball landing in the pond behind the baseball stadium in Port Charlotte back in 1993. Jose Canseco, playing for the Rangers then, hit the ball, and some fan dived in after it, ignoring the alligator sunning itself on the shore.

That was Mark.

Back to the game.

Chris Richard homered to left.

Rays 2, Yankees 0

The Rays have hit 15 home runs this spring – 14 of them on the road.
