Shields is laboring.
He walked Edgar Renteria to start the inning. That’s two walks and a hit batter in six batters.
DiFelice jogs to the mound, and whatever DiFelice said worked, because Shields cames back to strikeout Brandon Inge on four pitches.
Shields gets Ryan Raburn to bounce out to Bartlett, but the grounder was too slow for the shortstop to turn a double play.
Shields fell behind Tiger catcher Max St. Pierre, 3-0. St. Pierre almost doubles down the left field line, but the ball was foul by a foot or two. Shields get the count full then gets Max to bounce out to third.
Still, a lot of pitches for Shields.
