Ty Wigginton comes to bat to open the second and receives a nice hand from the Al Lang crowd.
It was around this time last year when Wiggy told the story of how he helped his wife, Angela, deliver their son, Chase, in the closet of their Mooresville, N.C. home a few months earlier.
Chase wouldn’t wait until Wiggy got Angela to the hospital.
Everything turned out fine, proving once more that Wiggy is one of the more versatile players in baseball. He can play first, second, third, the outfield and OBGYN.
He was a pretty good guy in the Rays clubhouse, funny and insightful.
He is missed.
And he just popped one foul behind home that Navarro caught near the Rays dugout.
Hammel retired the next two batters. He’s throwing strikes, which is a pre-rec for anyone trying to earn a spot in the rotation. Keep the ball down and throw strikes.
So far Hammel has done that today.
