Jorge Posada drove a bases-loaded double to right-center field that cleared the bases and gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead here in the sixth.
Yankees 3, Rays 2
Posada’s hit came off Calvin Medlock, who was summoned to replace Brian Anderson, who threw one pitch then walked off the mound.
That’s not a good sign for someone trying to return from consecutive Tommy John surgeries on his pitching elbow.
This is turning into some day here at Al Lang.
First, Rocco Baldelli announces he has “some type of metabolic and/or mitochondrial abnormalities” that are causing the problems with the muscles in his legs and he will be out indefinitely.
Then the fight.
And now Anderson’s elbow.
Also, the Rays locker room was just open for a few minutes so we could talk to Gomes and the rumor is someone punched Longoria in the back of his head during the second inning dustup.
“I wasn’t really trying to get a shot in on (Duncan),” Gomes said. “I probably could have done a lot worse, but it is a baseball field and there are kids and fans watching, but I just wanted him to know that’s not going to fly.”
