Here are some reactions to Duncan's spikes-high slide into Aki:
B.J. Upton called it, “A dirty play. Just flat out dirty. Period.”
Andy Sonnanstine, who was pitching for the Rays at the time, said, “My opinion is I’ve always thought of the Yankees as a classy organization, and what Shelly Duncan did out there today didn’t represent the Yankees too well.”
Carl Crawford said, “You don’t go in with your feet that high. Nobody does that. I can understand why Jonny got upset like that. It is what it is.”
Aki had this to say through his translator: “It wasn’t a fair play at the time. When I slide into second I never spike anyone.”
