If it’s windy we must be at Al Lang.
You can see white caps on the waves out in Tampa Bay, but it seems peaceful in Pena Cove, which is just to the left of left field these days, but is supposed to be beyond the right field fence when the Rays build their state-of-the-art open-air stadium in time for the 2012 season.
A dolphin was swimming around Pena Cover earlier today. He’s gone now. The dolphin, I mean. Actually Pena’s gone, too.
And so is the Rays shutout.
A bloop single by Pat Burrell in the top of the sixth scored Jimmy Rollins, who doubled.
Rays 3, Phillies 1
J.P. Howell just worked the last of his two innings. He allowed three hits, one run and walked a batter.
It’s time for the seventh inning stretch. But here’s the catch: There’s plenty of baseball left.
Maddon said the teams would play 13 innings, but I was just told they might go 14.
I spotted another umpire walking across the parking lot toward Al Lang. I couldn’t tell who he was from the distance. He’s here to spell D.J. Reyburn, who has been calling the balls and strikes.
